As the 2025 NBA offseason for the Hornets begins, the Charlotte Hornets are poised for significant changes following a challenging 19–63 season. With the Oklahoma City Thunder facing the Indiana Pacers, the Hornets are focusing on rebuilding and reshaping their roster.

🧭 Front Office Direction: Staying the Rebuild Course

Under the leadership of General Manager Jeff Peterson and Head Coach Charles Lee, the Hornets appear committed to a long-term rebuild. The team has accumulated future draft assets and is prioritizing the development of young talent over immediate success. This strategy is evident in their willingness to trade veterans for future picks and prospects.

🔄 Trade Rumors: LaMelo Ball and Mark Williams

Speculation surrounds the futures of key players LaMelo Ball and Mark Williams. LaMelo Ball, despite his talent, has been linked to trade rumors, with reports suggesting he may request a trade this offseason.  Mark Williams was nearly traded to the Los Angeles Lakers, but the deal was rescinded due to concerns about his physical. Nevertheless, rival executives anticipate that the Hornets will revisit trade discussions involving Williams this summer.

🧑‍🎓 Draft Capital: A Pivotal Opportunity

The Hornets hold the fourth overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, along with the 33rd and 34th picks. This draft is considered deep, and the Hornets have a chance to select a player who could become a cornerstone for the franchise. Potential targets include VJ Edgecombe and Ace Bailey, depending on how the top picks unfold.

💰 Cap Space & Free Agency: Strategic Flexibility

Operating over the salary cap, the Hornets have limited space but possess valuable trade assets, such as Jusuf Nurkic’s expiring $19.4 million contract. This could be utilized in trades to acquire additional assets or facilitate roster changes. The team also faces decisions regarding restricted free agents Tre Mann and Wendell Moore, with qualifying offer deadlines approaching.
