The Comeback Blueprint: Brandon Miller’s Leap Year Begins Now

By Morris Johnson Sr. | Charlotte Observer – August 7th, 2025

You can feel the tension in the air at Spectrum Center. Not dread — not anymore. Expectation.

Brandon Miller isn’t just returning from injury — he’s returning with a mission: to become a superstar.

And if early glimpses from training camp and scrimmages are any indication, that mission is well underway.

🔙

Flashback: The Setback That Sparked the Rise

Miller’s second NBA season was supposed to be his breakout. He was averaging 21.4 points, 5.6 rebounds, and shooting 38% from deep before a late-season ankle injury derailed his momentum.

Instead of sulking, he hit the film room. He studied Jordan, Kobe, Bird, Duncan? He rebuilt his body — leaner, stronger, more explosive.

According to team sources, Miller’s comeback is being treated like a relaunch, not a recovery.

“He’s attacking this like it’s Year 1 again — but with Year 3 tools,” said Hornets assistant coach Justin Scott. “The reads are sharper. The moves are tighter. He’s not hoping to take the leap — he’s demanding it.”

New Mentality: “They Forgot Who I Am”

Off the court, Miller has become more withdrawn. No more joking with media or viral TikToks. Just laser focus.

“They called us losers. They said I was soft,” Miller told reporters at media day. “That’s fine. I don’t talk anymore. I work.”

Teammates say he’s channeling MJ-like edge — snapping at missed rotations, pushing through double sessions, and talking trash with a cold, surgical demeanor.

Ben Simmons said it best:

“He’s locked in like I haven’t seen since Embiid in Philly. Different level.”

🔥

Early Signs of the Leap

So far in preseason scrimmages, Miller is reportedly:

  • Pulling up confidently off the dribble from 28 feet

  • Punishing smaller defenders in the post

  • Calling for the ball late in the clock — and delivering

  • Guarding 1–4 with improved lateral speed and strength

Coach Charles Lee has leaned into Miller as the primary scoring option, even over Bol Bol. He’s running sets for him like he used to with Khris Middleton in Milwaukee — iso pinch-posts, elbow clears, and flare screens.

What the League Is Saying

“He’s the most overlooked rising star in the league.” — JJ Redick, ESPN

“Miller has the makings of a 3-level killer with a Mamba mindset. Charlotte might finally have their guy.” — Chris Broussard, FS1

“If he stays healthy, he’ll be an All-Star by February. Book it.” — NBA scout, anonymous

🎤 Final Word from Morris Johnson Sr.

Brandon Miller heard what Paul George said. He saw the memes. He felt the silence when LaMelo was traded and the spotlight swung back his way.

And now?

He’s ready to prove that the franchise was never LaMelo’s to begin with.

This is Brandon Miller’s team now.

And the league better wake up before it’s too late.
